Sintomas
Severe N deficiency (right) results in poor yielding caused by a reduction of tiller number as well as diminished stem, ear and seed size.
Causas
Nitrogen deficiency (right)
Sintomas
Characteristic symptoms of N deficiency are reduced vigor, smaller leaves and a pale green or yellowish leaf color.
The symptoms first become visible on the old leaves which turn yellow and wither at progressing deficiency.
Extreme N deficiency causes early senescence and diminished ear size.

Sulphur deficiency, low pH and root damage cause similar symptoms.

The symptoms first become visible on the old leaves which turn yellow and wither at progressing deficiency. Necrosis starts on the leaf tip and progresses toward the leaf base.
Extreme N deficiency causes early senescence and diminished ear size.

Symptoms of N and S deficiency in wheat and other small grains are very similar, thus a tissue analysis is often necessary to reveal the cause.

Starting on the older leaves, N deficiency causes chlorotic yellowing and stunted growth of cereal plants.

Starting on the older leaves, N deficiency causes chlorotic yellowing and stunted growth of cereal plants. Tillering and ear size are reduced. Severe lack of N leads to early senescence.

Cereals: 10 to 20 l/ha from tillering to the end of the milk development stage in grain ripening (Zadoks G.S. 21 to 79). Repeat applications at 10 to 14 day intervals. Water rate: 200 l/ha. N.B. Note that later foliar nitrogen applications may raise grain nitrogen status.
